The Myth Pool -"In It Together" Short Bio
The Myth Pool is a collaboration between Bay Area artists Amie Penwell and Vicente Rodriguez.
Created in a shared studio apartment with limited resources, cheap headphones, and small windows of time, the project emerged from a simple decision: stop asking what would work and start asking what was true.
Blending Alternative, Dance, Noir R&B, and Art Pop influences, The Myth Pool draws inspiration from Prince, Joan As Police Woman, Sade, Rufus Wainwright, Everything But The Girl, and years of creative lives lived both together and apart.
Their debut single, In It Together, pairs an infectious groove with an unflinching look at the unraveling of a long marriage, transforming heartbreak into movement and reflection. Every element of the project—from the recordings to the visuals, photography, and handmade diorama video—is created by the artists themselves.
The Myth Pool makes melancholy you can dance to. A fun kind of ache.
The Myth Pool – "In It Together" Long Bio
What happens when two independent artists, successful in their own right, decide to build something together?
One had just left an entire life behind. The other was spending much of his time on the road touring with Chuck Prophet. There was no budget, no grand plan, and no guarantee that anything would come of it.
What they did have was a shared studio apartment, small windows of time, and a growing collection of songs.
There was no outside producer, no AI, no team of specialists. Every sound, image, video, and design element was approached with a simple question:
What if constraint wasn't the obstacle? What if it was the oracle?
The result became The Myth Pool, a project born from creative freedom rather than expectation. Drawing inspiration from artists as varied as Prince, Joan As Police Woman, Sade, and Everything But The Girl, the duo created a sound that slips between Alternative, Dance, Noir R&B, Art Pop, and Electronic Soul.
The first single, "In It Together," is both deeply personal and surprisingly danceable. Built around an infectious groove and bittersweet honesty, the song takes an unwavering look at the slow disintegration of Amie Penwell's twenty-year marriage.
"I didn't want to be right."
Rather than offering blame or easy conclusions, "In It Together" explores the complicated space between love, obligation, truth, and survival. Its shimmering melodies and propulsive rhythm create a striking contrast to its emotional weight, transforming heartbreak into movement.
The song becomes an invitation to see things as they are rather than as we wish them to be.
The accompanying video embraces the project's DIY spirit. They created a diorama in the corner of a studio apartment, and cast a plastic monster from Home Depot as the main character. The video celebrates imagination over budget and creativity over polish.
"In It Together" is the first of four singles introducing the world of The Myth Pool—a world built from limitations, curiosity, resilience, and the belief that art can still be made by hand.
Sometimes all you need is two people, a small room, and a reason to keep creating.
